THROWBACK THURSDAY: Drake ft. Lil Wayne & Jay-Z - Light Up (Rikers Remix)

Talk about a hell of a throwback. This song makes me nostalgic in a way. It takes me back to the days when Guru and I were just discovering our potential to sniff out the hottest new tracks, back to the days when Young Money was relevant and Drake was just blowing up for real, back to the days when LIL WAYNE WASN"T TUNECHI AKA WAS THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE... but I digress. Those were the days, but now they're over. This song marks the end of an era. Drake is now his own entity, Tunechi is putting out consistent trash with a few brief flashes of his immortal talent, and Guru and I are (semi) functioning adults. In terms of the actual track, I would like to say a few words. Drake is on point as usual, Jay-Z spits some real ish, and Wayne delivers one of his hottest verses over the phone from Rikers Island. This is, as far as I'm aware, a unique moment in music history. And it's straight fire. Check out this historical piece, and DL it below.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Tiesto & DJ Punish - Shocker (Original Mix)

This is a classic example of a progressive house song. I believe Guru showcased this one about a year ago, but I feel like it deserves to be brushed off and brought back to your senses for eargasmic listening pleasure. Like all great progressive house songs, there is a steady build in perceived tempo, booming bass, fantastic synths, and a massive drop. I mean, at this point it's essentially a formula, but textbook precision isn't always possible. Here it is though. Fantastic song. Check it out and DL below.

Kid Ink - Messin Up My High

An oldie but a goodie. This here is for all of you having a rough day, I sure know it helps me endure the tough times. Kid Ink from waaaaay back, reminding you to chill. Listen and DL below.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)

CarĂ¡tula Frontal de Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh) (Cd Single)

In keeping with the springtime salvo, we have Snow. Not the cold, wet stuff that most of you hate with a burning passion. But this classic RHCP jam from way back in the day. If you don't know this... eh. Listen and learn people. Great song for highway cruising with the top down. Track and DL link below. Enjoy.

Wiz Khalifa - Fly Solo (Prod. by E. Dan)

Well, well, well. Guru finally decided to show his sorry self on the site by posting a springtime melody. Now, as many of you know, I'm not the biggest fan of country. So if we're gonna post some spring tunes, I have to have my say too. This being said, we have Fly Solo by Wiz Khalifa. The melody is absolutely reminiscent of spring and the great outdoors. Wiz also tries his hand at singing... not too shabby. Anyway, this is a solid throwback, and one of my favorite Wiz joints... get it? Listen and DL below.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: D.veloped - Start With Straight Shots, Then Smash Pumpkins

Wow. Lets talk about two hardcore throwbacks here. Although this track isn't strictly a throwback, being released a little less than three years ago, both sample tracks in the mashup are pretty solid throwbacks themselves. And it's Thursday. So shut up. I'm posting again, enjoy.

The two sample tracks here are Weezy and Birdman's classic "Pop Bottles" and "Today" by Smashing Pumpkins. I don't know how D.veloped does it man, I really don't. These songs are like polar opposites. A hip-hop track from Wayne's heyday, featuring the ever ignorant rhymes of Birdman, and an almost hippie rock styled alternative track from a band way past their prime. But it's solid gold. If you don't believe me, dig the tune down below and download it if you like it.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: R. Kelly - Ignition (Remix) (Music Video)

Throwback Thursday y'all. I'm getting all my posts out of the way early today. Everyone knows this, and as far as I'm aware, everyone loves it too. So I'll throw it back for you. This is truly a classic in every sense of the word. Back when rappers wore oversized clothing instead of kilts (sorry Ye and A$AP), back when Cristal was the drug of choice instead of molly, back before R. Kelly was accused of... shenanigans. Regardless of what floats Mr. Kelly's boat, this song is fantastic. Track and DL link below.

Kid Cudi ft. Billy Cravens - My World

This is music for the soul. This is for all of those hell bent on ruling the universe one day. One day. Track and DL link below.

Wiz Khalifa - B.A.R.

Here's a hell of a classic throwback to Wiz's pre sell out days. Great smoke song, great spring break joint (get it... joint), and great time all around. Track and DL link below.

Avicii - Levels Reversed

If Avicii's Levels isn't in the top three electro-dance music songs ever produced, at least in terms of popularity, I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Everyone from America to Australia knows Levels. Everyone. The song is a universal staple to the EDM genre. Just like Blue or The Final Countdown. It's just common knowledge. And here we have the melody reversed. That's right people. Reversed. I'll be the first to tell you that this song isn't new. Hell, I think the troops back in 'Nam were blasting this little ditty, but to be honest, I really don't care. This song is fantastic. Way better than the original in my opinion. But hey. That's just me. Check it out for yourself, experience the eargasm for yourself. Track and DL link below.

Detail feat. T-Pain, Lil Wayne, & Travis McCoy - Tattoo Girl (Foreva)

As is tradition, I like to post bangers crucial to the lives of Guru and I from years past. Especially summer anthems. Without a doubt, this song is essential if you have a convertible car. There is no better feeling than zipping along the road, top down, sun setting, and the wind blowing everywhere as you blast music. And this song makes it that much better. When I hear this uplifting song, I think spring break or even more importantly, summer. This is a must have throwback joint featuring some of our favorite artists at their peaks. Track and DL link is below, enjoy!

Bei Major (Maejor Ali) ft. Waka Flocka Flame - Lights Down Low

Throwback Thursday. Here's a solid R&B song from way back. Odd to hear Waka on a track like this, but hey, it works. Bei Maejor, or Maejor Ali, whatever he's calling himself these days, has some great vocals here. This is one of those songs you can get posted up on a wall to. Enjoy. Track and DL link below.

2 Chainz - Riot (prod by. Spinz)

If y'all don't know this, shame. Shame on you, shame on your family, shame on your friends. This shit is a rage track from a few years ago. I first turned the fuck up to this track freshman year on spring break when I journeyed to the mystical land of Panama City Beach... y'all already know. Turn. The FUCK. UP. Tracl and DL below, enjoy them.

N.E.R.D. - Everyone Nose (Remix)(Ft. Kanye West, Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco, & Pusha T)

You people have no concept of the shenanigans this track is capable of unleashing. Guru and I know full well: when this one comes on at the pregame, usually all that you'll be able to remember is the pregame. It's gonna be one of those nights people. Prepare for it properly. This... this is the anthem. Track and DL link below.

Haddaway - What Is Love (Music Video)(Carrey/Ferrell Clip)

Guru has it right. Those are the anthems of mankind for this sad, sad day. But if you're feeling super lonely and a little bit desperate, sometimes you have to ask yourself... "What is love?" Ain't no shame in your game if you put all you have into it. Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey can easily attest to that. Check the clip above for a good laugh, and if you're really into it, download the real track below. Enjoy.

Young Jeezy - I Luv It

Hell of a throwback here, hell of a throwback. Back then, Jeezy was on the come up, Freaknik was alive and kicking, and I was learning what sex was in Jr. High. Ahhhh. The good old days. If you don't know this song, you don't know rap, and if you don't like this song, then you don't deserve to breathe. This is the definition of classic Jeezy. Enjoy. Track and DL link below.

Lil Wayne - Told Yall

Hey guys, did you know that in addition to being a skateboarder and the head of a rarely successful music label, Weezy F used to be a rapper? Crazy, right? I used to be the biggest fan of this guy, and this track right here shows you why. In my social circles back in high school, Wayne used to be known as "The Last Punch-Line Rapper." The metaphors in this one are unreal, and his technique is impeccable. Free Weezy, and lock that dude Tunechi the hell back up. Track and DL link below.

Kid Cudi - Wild'n Cuz I'm Young

Deep bass and a trance-like melody coupled with Cudder's deep, harmonious voice. I don't know whether to sleep to it or drink to it. Again, an old classic throwback. Haven't listened to this frequently since 'Nam, but I can tell you I know every word. Dig it.

Lil Wayne - I'm Single (Music Video)

Damn, today I'm feeling nostalgic, especially with that last post. This is one of Weezy F's best tracks in my opinion. If you argue, well, you're wrong. But you're entitled to your delusions I guess. Like I said. One of the best. Peep the video, and if you've lived in a hole under a rock for your entire life up till recently, cop the track below.

Lil Wayne - Whoever You Like ft. Jae Millz & Gudda Gudda

I shouldn't even need to write a review, nor voice an introduction for this one. But I will, since it's Prevolutionary's 100th post, and I like to celebrate milestones with classics. What do I even have to say though? Dedication 3 is arguably one of Wayne's best mixtapes up there with No Ceilings and one or two of the Drought series. This was one of D3's most outstanding tracks in my opinion as well as Guru's. Dedications are known for taking the current top of hip-hop and remaking them into something more. This is no exception. The world should know by now I'm no fan of the small timers in Young Money... who the fuck is Euro for real, although I've at least heard of him over some of the new signees. And we all know Christina Milan was just a publicity stunt. Jae Millz and Gudda are a little bit above that in general but I'll be honest, they stood out strong on this mixtape. Being even more honest, this mixtape was the first time I had ever heard of Drake, and I thought Jae and Gudda outshone him, especially with this track, but hey, I've been wrong before. Clearly. Anyway, enjoy the damn song already.
